What Is a Liquid Facelift?
Is your face starting to show signs of aging, but you don’t want to undergo a surgical facelift? If so, a liquid facelift might be right for you. This minimally invasive procedure reduces the signs of aging with fewer side effects than a surgical procedure. Before you schedule your consultation, learn more about what to expect with a liquid facelift.
Using Dermal Fillers to Reduce Signs of Aging
If you undergo a liquid facelift, your cosmetic surgeon will inject dermal fillers to plump up your skin, fill in hollow areas, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and provide a more youthful appearance. Depending on your needs, you can receive dermal fillers in your temples, below the eyelid, in your cheeks, in the folds between your mouth and nose, and the creases on the sides of your mouth. Your cosmetic surgeon will choose the dermal fillers based on the area and desired outcomes. Common dermal fillers include Botox, Dysport, Restylane, and Juvéderm. You will go over all your options during the consultation, and the cosmetic surgeon will explain why he or she selected certain fillers.
Recovering from a Liquid Facelift
You might be afraid of getting a facelift due to the downtime. However, with a liquid facelift, you can return to work the following day. You will have some bruising and swelling, though, so you might want to take some time off work if possible. You can reduce the bruising and swelling by using ice packs after the procedure, and it should be completely gone within a week.
You should avoid strenuous exercise and direct sunlight for a day following the procedure. Also, don’t rub your face for the first three days after getting dermal fillers unless you are instructed to do so. Rubbing your face could cause the dermal fillers to leave the treatment area and go to other parts of your body.
Your cosmetic surgeon might provide you with additional aftercare instructions. Follow the instructions, so you can achieve the optimal outcome.
The Results
If you were to undergo a surgical facelift, you’d have to wait for weeks to see the results. Nothing would be visible until the bruising and swelling went away.
However, you will notice the results right away when you undergo a liquid facelift. The results will look even better when the swelling and bruising go away, but you’ll have a very good idea of the outcome when you leave the cosmetic surgeon’s office.
The results are also long-lasting. For many, the results of a liquid facelift last for one to two years, and even longer in some cases. Because this procedure is minimally invasive, you can undergo another liquid facelift after the results wear off. You can also get touchups for specific areas of your face if you want.
