Repurposing is the process by which an object with one use value is transformed or redeployed as an object with an alternative use value.
Your own body fat is now a valuable commodity. Fat grafting is the process of removing unwanted fat from the body, usually from the tummy, flanks, or thighs, and transferring that body fat to another area of the body. Most notably used to add volume to an aging face, fat injections are now being performed for breast augmentation, hand rejuvenation, and even butt lifts! Not only can fat be repurposed, but it is also a renewable resource for your own cosmetic enhancement.
Dr. Gilbert Lee and Dr. Brian Reagan, both board-certified plastic surgeons, see many patients who originally are focused on fat removal (via liposuction) and are astonished to find out that their body fat can be repurposed to augment their buttocks or breasts. Changes Plastic Surgery & Spa uses a vibrating liposuction system that removes more viable fat cells; the fat that is more apt to “take” and stay in place. Once the fat has been extracted, it is processed to separate the extracted fluid from viable fat. This is good fat. Repurposed fat. Ready to provide larger breasts or a more ample butt.
Patient A After Liposuction of Flanks | Patient A Before and After Fat Grafting to Breasts
Patient A was an avid exerciser, but she hated her stubborn belly fat and “love handles” or “muffin top.” She was more than happy to get rid of her problem areas and gain a bustier bust when we suggested fat grafting.
We liposuctioned the flanks and abdomen providing ample fat for grafting to the breasts. The patient reports a 1 ½ cup size increase in her breasts following the augmentation. The beauty of breast augmentation with a person’s own fat is that it is long lasting and uncomplicated without the risks associated with breast implants. The results are stunning and natural.
Patient B immediately after Fat Grafting to Buttocks | Patient Be before and after Butt Augmentation
As Patient B was being marked to undergo liposuction of her flanks, she asked if her fat could be used for butt augmentation. Since the answer was yes, she enthusiastically agreed to have her harvested fat used for a much fuller, rounder buttocks. Close to 1 cup of fat was injected into each buttock. Unlike buttock implants which can shift in position, Patient B’s natural fat resource will stay put. This is Patient B still on the table immediately following the augmentation and a profile of her butt before and after. Nice.
Instead of bemoaning your belly or loathing your love handles, think of them as a valuable resource for repurposing into breast or buttock augmentation. Be sure you select a board certified plastic surgeon with experience in liposuction and fat grafting as well as implant augmentation. Sculpting the body with fat requires technical skill and artistry.
