With age and sun exposure, the skin’s collagen layer begins to thin. Because our collagen layer acts as a foundation that supports the skin, this thinning contributes to the development of wrinkles. Sun damage is evident in uneven pigment and age spots. A new generation of laser rejuvenation treats these unwanted changes using fractional laser light beams.
Untreated facial muscles still contract normally, allowing you to freely show facial expressions, such as smiling, in untreated areas. The effect of Dysport™ usually lasts 3 to 5 months; the effect of Botox ® slightly longer.
Fraxel Laser
Fraxel ® uses fractionated laser light that precisely treats thousands of microscopic areas of skin, using pinpoint laser beams that penetrate beneath the skin’s surface to eliminate old, damaged skin cells. This method of resurfacing tiny areas while leaving bridges of untreated skin speeds recovery and lessens the amount of down-time. Fraxel ® treatments stimulate the body’s own natural healing process which replaces damaged skin with fresh, glowing, healthy skin.
Aging Skin and Fraxel Laser Resurfacing
You do a lot to look and feel great, finding the time to enjoy lift to the fullest while still taking care of your body and skin. Yet, the effects of sun, pollution, stress, and fatigue can add up, keeping your skin from looking as good as you feel.
Benefits of Fraxel Skin Resurfacing
- Smoother, fresher looking skin
- Improved tone and texture
- Improved appearance of acne scars and surgical scars
- Excellent treatment for face, neck, chest, arms, legs, and back
How Fraxel works
Topical anesthesia is applied before the procedure and cold air is used in the treatment area during the procedure to minimize discomfort. Your treatment provider may also suggest prescribed medication to help you relax. After the treatment, most patients report a feeling similar to having gotten too much sun. It usually disappears after 1 to 3 hours. Side-effects may include minor itching, dry skin, peeling or flaking, and a bronzed skin appearance for a few days. You will want to use sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher and avoid direct sun exposure for at least 3 months after your last treatment.
Generally, a series of 4 to 5 treatments are recommended, although often you can see improvement after just one treatment. The Changes Plastic Surgery & Spa nursing staff will recommend the correct type of laser treatment depending on your skin type, color and skin condition. Please keep in mind treatments need to be done consistently in order to achieve the maximum result.
